The Engineer-Manager implements the policies and plans of the Road Commission through direct and indirect oversight and management of all engineering, field work and administrative operations and associated personnel. The Engineer-Manager has formal management and supervisory authority over all employees of the Road Commission. Provides direct supervision to the Finance Manager, Operations Manager, Office and Human Resources Manager and Engineer Assistant, and manages other staff through subordinate supervisors, retaining the authority to make all formal employment decisions including hiring, formal discipline and termination; appeals and reviews may be provided through collective bargaining agreement(s) and/or Road Commission personnel policies.

Mechanic

The Antrim County Road Commission is accepting applications for a mechanic at our Central Lake Garage. Applicants must and be able to pass a DOT drug test and background check. The road commission offers a quality work environment with comprehensive benefits including, but not limited to:

Regular work week scheduled eight hours a day Monday through Friday. Beginning May through September 10 hours a day Monday through Thursday. Starting wage for mechanic is $24.16 per hour. Upon satisfactory 6-month evaluation, wage will increase $1.00 per hour. With a successful one-year probation, wage will increase to $26.16 per hour. TITLE:    Mechanic

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Fleet & Facilities Manager, perform equipment repair and maintenance.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Follow fleet & facilities manager daily orders.
  • Operate tools and equipment.
  • Complete detailed daily time card and give to fleet & facilities manager.
  • Document all parts you remove and use from inventory.
  • Vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Have general knowledge of metal welding, cutting and fabricating.
  • Inform fleet & facilities manager of expensive repairs required.
  • Obtain fleet & facilities manager permission to alter daily orders.
  • Perform requested building and grounds maintenance.

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The foregoing describes the Mechanics duties in general, and should not be construed as a complete list of all assigned duties and responsibilities.  The successful applicant shall be expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in successfully completing work assignments.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The mechanics position is generally within the maintenance shop and mechanic duties will often encounter adverse conditions where strenuous effort is required, and the following physical requirements must be met.

Mobility:                        Able to walk extended distances and climb ladders or steps to access equipment and facilities.

Agility:                           Able to lift, push or pull objects, weighing upwards of 80 pounds, and to operate equipment.

Vision:                           Able to read and comprehend instructions, directions and other documents.

Hearing/Speech:        Able to converse orally with telephone or radio, and to receive and communicate information to employees and the public.

Other:                            Able to tolerate, be exposed to and work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Must have extensive mechanical ability and knowledge
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills
  • Must have above average mathematical skills
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Be able to work independently, when required
  • . Be able to perform vehicle diagnostics, maintenance and repair
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and shop drawings
  •  Be able operate metal working tools (i.e. cutting torches, MIG welding)
  • Be able to plan and complete basic metal fabrication
  • Ability to deal with people effectively and courteously.
  • Ability to formulate accurate, written documentation.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, as necessary.
  • Michigan Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is preferred. Together with any endorsements deemed necessary by the Employer and as required by state or federal law.
  • Subject to random MDOT drug/alcohol testing as required by state or federal law.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: 

This full-time position is covered by union contract.
